HOW TO SELECT A SUNSCREEN
Four must know tips for sunscreen.
Choosing the right sunscreen can help reduce the risk of cancer. It is an important tool in the fight against skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. One in five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime. The Amercian Academy of Dermatology recommends consumers choose a sunscreen which states on the label:
- SPF 30 or higher
- Broad Spectrum, which means the sunscreen protects the skin from Ultraviolet A (UVA) and Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, both of which can cause cancer
- One ounce of sunscreen, that's enough to fill a shot class, is the amount needed to cover the exposed parts of the body
